Note:
Robillard and co-workers obtained disappointing results using aerosolized synthetic phospholipidis in RDS in newborns. The problem was that DPPC melts at 41 °C. At body temperature it is a gel and does not spread easily during inspiration and the monolayer tends to collapse during expiration. Enhoerning and Robertson obtained successful results in preterm newborn rabbits instilling surfactant in the lungs. Enhoerning G, Robertson B.Pediatrics 1972
Fujiwara and co-workers obtained positive results in neonatal RDS using a modified bovine surfactant. Fujiwara T, Chida S, Watabe YJ, Maeta H, Morita T, Abe T. Lancet 1980
